Selective outrage is the tendency of individuals or groups expressing outrage or moral indignation selectively based on personal biases. People may choose to speak out against certain offenses while ignoring or downplaying others that may be equally or even more significant. Selective outrage can manifest in social issues and personal relationships with someone condemning a person for a particular action while excusing similar behavior from a friend. One could argue that selective outrage undermines the credibility of moral or ethical judgments, suggesting that the outrage is motivated more by self-interest and tribalism rather than genuine concern for justice or morality.
